I found this video when looking for pictures for my Read'n'Seed. I can't believe I have never heard of this before. I feel so out of the loop. It's so sad and disgusting.
Have any of you heard of this before? What's your reaction?

Oh my gosh. This is so sad. I can't believe that there is 6 times more plastic than plankton in our ocean water, and 3.5 tons of garbage floating around! I agree with experts that this needs to start at a local level, and should be promoted so that everyone is aware of what is happening to our earth.
ReplyDelete10 Millions Square Miles!! This is so sad, I also can not believe that I have never heard of this, it is hard to believe that something like this could have gotten so bad.
ReplyDeleteThis is honestly SO SAD! i cannot believe that less than 5% of plastic that is thrown out is recycled globally! honestly, that's tragic. The guy in the video is right, we do need to start accepting responsibility locally first.
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible! 80% of the garbage was plastic? And they don't know how they are going to clean it up? And fish and birds are consuming the plastic pieces? This is unacceptable. I don't think we'd particularily like it if the birds and fish were throwing their waste into our homes so it shouldn't be acceptable for us to do it to them.
ReplyDeleteI have seen this video before and it is just saddening. It is sad that this is bigger than the continental United States. I could be its own country! It is also shocking that the amount of plastic has doubled over five years and that the plastic could eventually reach our dinner plates! Great video.
ReplyDeleteI seriously can't belive this! When I think of the ocean I don't picture 3.5 million tons of plastic floating around. What surprises me is the fact that it was discovered in 1997 yet I'd never heart of it until NOW. It's really sad that they're not planning on cleaning up what's already there, just cutting back on adding more. Very disheartening.
